Vibration & Noise Problems

Symptoms: 

Unusual sounds during operation: impact, rumbling, hissing, irregular periodic noise, or severe vibration of the gearbox.

 Possible Causes:

Gear issues: worn, broken, or pitted teeth; improper backlash (too large or too small); gear shaft misalignment.

Bearing issues: bearing wear, cage damage, raceway pitting, poor lubrication.

Assembly issues: loose foundation bolts or connecting bolts; coupling misalignment; dynamic unbalance.

Foreign materials: contaminants or metal debris inside the gearbox.

 Recommended Actions:

Stop immediately and inspect. First, exclude external factors: tighten foundation bolts and check coupling alignment.

Open the inspection cover to check gear meshing and look for damaged teeth.

Use a listening rod to pinpoint the source of the noise – whether from the gearbox or the bearing or housing.

Conduct vibration analysis to determine the frequency and root cause.
